PRESIDENT’S
MESSAGE
As the 2012 show season begins, I am
glad to report that our first show in
January, the Silver Spurs Winter Slide, was
a huge success. It was well attended with
entries and stall reservations.
A BIG THANKS to Tim Lynch, general manager
of Horseshoe Park & Equestrian Centre in
Queen Creek for donating the use of the
facilities…including the arenas and all the
ground work! As reiners, we all know the
importance of good footing for our horses,
Tim and his crew provided us with great
ground!
The importance of a successful show depends
on the sponsors, staff and volunteers. The
AzRHA is very fortunate to have such
wonderful sponsors, great staff and hard
working volunteers. I want to give a special
thank you to our Silver Spurs Winter Slide
Show sponsors Michael and Michelle Miola of
Silver Spurs Equine, LLC for their generous
contribution. THANK YOU!!
One of the more entertaining attractions at
our Silver Spurs Winter Slide Show was the
stick horse competition put on by the AzRHA
Youth Club, led by advisor Ashley Wilson.
The event turned out to be a fantastic fund
raiser, and fun was had by all. A BIG THANKS
goes to the winner Dan Huss, who graciously
donated the 1st place money back to the
youth club. Thanks Dan…and who knew you
could run so fast!!
I’m looking forward to seeing everyone at
our next show, the Spring Stampede, on March
2nd & 3rd at Westworld. This show will have
a full slate of NRHA classes and more. Watch
out for our annual Egg N Spoon Race at this
show on Saturday afternoon. It’s always a
big hit and another great fundraiser for our
Youth Club.
For all the Rookies who are looking to beat
the summer heat, we are hosting a Rookie
Day, appropriately named “Beat the Heat”.
This event will be held in Skull Valley at
Ben Balow Training Stables. Once the dates
are chosen they will be posted on our AzRHA
Website and NRHA REINER magazine. For more
information, please contact Tracy Lynch at
TracySLynch@yahoo.com or 580-277-9006.
I hope you all have a great show season.
Yours truly,
Dave Belson
President
From days long ago when cowboys would casually compete with
each other to determine whose
horse was a better, more willing
partner, the sport of Reining
has exploded into a
multi-million dollar industry
world-wide. Reining is the only
western discipline to be
recognized by the IFE and it was
a featured event in the 2010
World Equestrian Games in
Kentucky. If you have not seen a
Reining Horse run his pattern,
you are missing out! Around the
world, the premier Reining
events are drawing larger and
larger crowds. This is partly
due to the excitement that
Reining provides for the
participant and spectator alike.
Reining is a judged event requiring competitors to complete
one of 12 approved patterns in
an arena. These precise patterns
include small slow circles,
large fast circles, flying lead
changes, roll backs, 360 degree
spins done in place, and “the
hallmark” of the reining horse,
the exciting sliding stops.
Often called the "Dressage" of
Western events, Reining is the
ultimate blend of horse and
rider, combining speed and
maneuverability through this
series of intricate patterns.
Reining requires the horse to be
responsive and completely in
tune with its rider. Cues and
commands should not be easily
visible. The reining pattern is
judged based on how willfully
guided the horse responds and
its ability to perform the
required movements.
The Arizona Reining Horse
Association (AzRHA) was founded
in 1984 as an Affiliate of the
National Reining Horse
Association
(NRHA). The AzRHA is a
not-for-profit organization
committed to promoting and
growing the sport of Reining in
the state of Arizona and
beyond. The AzRHA adheres to
the rules and regulations of the
NRHA and provides a forum for
exhibitors, breeders, and anyone
interested in the sport of
Reining.
THE AzRHA ANNUAL MEETING
will be held during
the November Autumn Slide
Show.
Plan on attending this quick
meeting for an
update about our Non-Profit
Organization.
All AzRHA Members are encouraged
to attend.
