2009 GREEN AS GRASS RIDER CLASS RULES
These are new rules for 2009 and supersede all previous programs. Trainers, please make sure your beginning riders are aware of the new rules as to eliminate any confusion.
ENTRY LEVEL
This class is for beginning riders with less than $100 lifetime reining earnings (from any and all shows, NOT limited to NRHA earnings) or less than 20 NRHA Youth points at the beginning of the current show year. If the rider is eligible at the beginning of the year, they may ride in Green as Grass the entire year. A rider can ride in the Green as Grass class for a maximum of two consecutive years. Riders are not eligible for the second year if their earnings exceed $100 during the first year. Green as Grass is NOT an NRHA approved class.
RULES
Green as Grass riders will follow NRHA Rookie equipment and riding rules (Example: Green as Grass class exhibitors shall show one-handed with a bridle).
HORSE
Green as Grass riders may ride a horse owned by someone else (including non-family members).
MEMBERSHIP
Green as Grass riders need to be an AzRHA member to show in the shows/jackpots. The Green as Grass rider must be a member of the AzRHA to qualify for year-end awards. It is also encouraged that they be a member of the NRHA.
YEAR-END AWARDS
Both the rider and the horse's owner must be a member of the AzRHA. Monies earned will only count towards year end awards from the date the rider and the horse's owner sign up as a member. Award winners will be based on the total amount of monies earned in the Green as Grass class at the end of the show season (calendar year) by the rider. A qualifying event is an AzRHA Jackpot and the NRHA approved affiliate shows hosted by AzRHA in Arizona. You must ride in 50% of the annual shows/jackpots to be eligible for year end awards. Please refer to the 2009 AzRHA Qualifications for the 2009 Year-End Awards rules for additional information.
