If any of these rules are unclear, please speak with a member of the year end awards committee or another member of the AzRHA who is familiar with our program. It is the rider’s responsibility to understand these rules when planning to run for a year end award. You will find a list of your AzRHA Directors and board members at our official website.

Arizona Reining Horse Association
2008 Year-end Awards Program Qualifications
The determination of year-end award winners will be based on points won at AzRHA approved events throughout the 2008 calendar year.
RIDERS AND OWNERS MUST BE CURRENT MEMBERS OF THE ARIZONA REINING HORSE ASSOCIATION (AzRHA) TO BE ELIGIBLE TO RECEIVE POINTS.
The owner’s AzRHA membership card must read the same as the name on the horse’s registration papers and/or NRHA competition license. A family membership is acceptable as long as the owner is listed on the membership form. A rider may also use a family membership so long as he/she’s name appears on the membership form. For those horses owned by a corporation or business, a corporate membership will be used to determine membership.
The date that membership is applied and paid for will determine start date for point eligibility. No points will be awarded retroactively. No exceptions will be given.
Non-Professional, Rookie, Green as Grass, and Youth exhibitors must compete on the same horse throughout the calendar year to be eligible for year-end awards. Both exhibitor and horse owner must be members of the AzRHA prior to competing for points to count toward year-end awards.
The AzRHA is an affiliate of the National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) and is therefore governed by NRHA rules and regulations. These NRHA rules will apply to Green as Grass exhibitors. Rookie and Green as Grass exhibitors must show one handed in a bridle. It is not required that exhibitors be members of the NRHA to qualify for year-end awards, however, AzRHA strongly encourages everyone to become NRHA members and be familiar with NRHA rules and guidelines.
Points for year-end awards will be determined as follows:
* The number of horses to be used for point computation shall only be the horses that are actually competing in said class; this excludes horses that were entered but then scratched from the completion.
* A “no score” or a “0” (zero) are ineligible to receive points; however, this does not alter the scale of points for placing.
EXAMPLE: 10 horses have entered a class; 5 of the horses entered score a “0”. The first five horses will receive points based on the scale, the remainder of the horses that scored a “0” will not receive any points, but they will receive credit for showing in the class.
* Ties that occur during a show will receive equal points based upon the
highest placed tie
EXAMPLE: 10 horses have entered and shown in a class. 2 horses tie for 2nd and 3rd place. Each horse will receive 9 points. The 4th place horse will receive 7 points.
* In the case of Non-professional and youth riders, the awards will be
determined by points earned for a “one horse - one rider” combination.
* For “Open, Intermediate Open, Limited Open, and Novice Horse Open”
points will earned by the horse. The horse can be ridden by multiple riders as set forth in the NRHA rules.
* Short stirrup points will be earned by the rider. The rider may ride multiple
horses.
Green as Grass Eligibility (For AzRHA only)
Non-pro, youth, and Amateur riders with less than $100.00 lifetime Reining earnings (from any and all shows, NOT just NRHA approved shows) who have earned less than 20 NRHA youth points and/or less than 20 AQHA reining points at the beginning of the current calendar show year. The Green as Grass class will be jackpotted and prize money will be paid out. Green as Grass points will count towards a year-end award. An eligible Green as Grass rider can compete in the division for the entire calendar year, even if their earnings exceed the limit during the calendar show year.
Green as Grass exhibitors may ride a horse owned by someone else. However, to be eligible for year-end awards the owner of said horse must be a current member of the AzRHA. NRHA Competition Licenses for horses entered are not required for Green as Grass. Green as Grass is not an NRHA recognized division, but will be judged based upon NRHA rules. Riders are to show one handed in a bridle to receive a score.
In the event of a tie in any division, the tiebreaker will be based on the exhibitor/horse who participated in the largest number of AzRHA approved events. If there is still a tie, the tiebreaker will be the exhibitor with the highest judge’s score in the qualifying division at the last event of the AzRHA calendar year.
